Weekly Minute, Time to walk away

January 2009 I began training formally in MMA, Stone and Water. (amalgamated JJ) I have always had a passion for martial arts, for defending those that couldn’t defend themselves and self protection.

I have carried this passion with me, the 100’s to 1000’s of hours of study, training, blood, sweat, tears, broken bones and all these years later I realize I have much more to learn.

I have been so blessed by my previous teachers, mentors, my fellow fighters/teammates, my clients, private and corporate. My fellow instructor and friend, Robert Cooper, who joined me at QCB and then at Evolution. It’s humbling to know some of those mentors have passed way too soon. I’m quite sure they had more to do here.

In October of 2021, I sold the last of my equipment and made the difficult decision to no longer pursue my martial arts studies, rankings, my self defense seminars and workshops.

I decided to return every moment of my attention and learning, to my other love, and income stream, music. Whether performing, creating, recording music, through collaborating, songwriting in all visual media. (Commercials, TV, film), I’m open to all of it.

It’s difficult to see so much cruelty in the world, I don’t like having to avoid the news and most aspects of social media, just to keep my desired positive head above water.

Teaching self defense, often laughing while doing it, giving back in that arena, helped because it filled me with hope. I will still share that passion in some capacity, whether online or through my music!

I’d love to hear about a transition, new journey or old one you rejoined in your life. How’s it going?!
