Self Pity by DH Lawrence

I could read this poem over and over, staring at it all day…

This may be familiar to those that enjoyed the film G.I.Jane. The Master Chief as he was called in the film, brilliantly played by Viggo Mortensen, often read from a book of DH Lawrence poems.

At the end of the film he leaves his Navy Cross medal, inside a book of poems by DH Lawrence for Demi Moores character.

It was a beautiful scene and one of my favorite movies in that genre.

Self-Pity

I never saw a wild thing
sorry for itself
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.
